How we will use your information to deliver Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is a Data Controller under the Data Protection Act 1998. We'll collect and use your personal information to check your eligibility for Tax-Free Childcare and the Department for Education's 30 hours (or whichever scheme you apply for). We may confirm the information you give us for accuracy with other government departments. As part of our eligibility checks, we may -

  • check your entitlement to benefits, Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits and Universal Credit
  • confirm your employment status and income
  • check whether you're entitled to public funds (if you indicate that you do)

We may also share your data with NS&I, Atos and Atkins who are helping to administer the Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours schemes. If you're eligible for the Department for Education's 30 hours, then we'll pass your eligibility status to the eligibility checking service and your local authority will access it from there.

We'll only share your information with third parties for purposes other than Tax-Free Childcare or 30 hours if the law permits us to, for -

  • the prevention or detection of crime
  • the protection of public funds

HMRC has a more detailed privacy policy. GOV.UK may also collect certain information about you.
